St Helens-born Parr, who died in 1978, scored 986 goals in a career that began at the age of 14 for Dick, Kerr Ladies FC in 1920.In 2002, she became the first woman to be inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame at the National Football Museum where the statue – commissioned by FA sponsors Mars – will be unveiled next month in Manchester. Marzena Bogdanowicz, Head of Commercial and Marketing, Women’s Football at The Football Association said: Womens football is in a very strong place today with the England team helping us to drive participation and interest at every level. We have come a long way since Lily Parrs days and she deserves recognition as a true pioneer of the sport.Lily Parr was the first woman to enter the Football Hall of Fame, an iconic achievement in itself, so its only fitting that she takes her place alongside other football legends and becomes the first woman to be celebrated with a statue in her honour. The Womens World Cup starts in France on June 7 and every single England and Scotland game will be live on talkSPORT.Sculptor Hannah Stewart works on the Lily Parr statue, which will be unveiled at the National Football Museum in JuneMars2
